AL Hayek
My aim doing this project is to pay tribute to Moroccan women by highlighting a
traditional dress called “AL Hayek” which is no longer used in Morocco.
My inspiration came from a postcard picture dated 1951. I like it a lot since it
precisely depicts a woman dressed in her Hayek, which is representative of the
identity of Moroccan woman of her time. With visible eyes, covered face and
body, it symbolizes feminine, in a time where it was hard to recognize the social
class from dressing style.
